An annual report of the school, dated June, 1915, to the Southwestern Province of the Oblate Fathers, gives specific information on the founding of Our Lady of Guadalupe School in Mission. The school was built in 1914 and opened for classes the first Tuesday of September of that year. It was built at a total cost of $1,900.52, had two classrooms and a stage. There were 102 pupils enrolled with an average daily attendance of 86. It was staffed by two members of the Sisters of Mercy from Laredo.
“Nuestra Senora de Mission,” which was then a dependent of the old mission at La Lomita, was partially destroyed by fire in 1926. The damaged building was restored and became part of the buildings of Our Lady of Guadalupe School. During the pastorate of Fr. James Delaney, O.M.I., a new school building was built. The Sisters of Mercy, who had staffed the school since 1914, moved into the new school building in September of 1960. The school closed after 73 years of serving the community in 1987.
2004 - Present
Under the leadership of Fr. Roy L. Snipes, O.M.I., Pastor, of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, the school re-opened in August 2004, with 1 Montessori Classroom. Two classrooms and an office area were renovated. There were 19 students enrolled. It was staffed by a principal, secretary, 1 teacher and 1 aide.
